Have You Ever Heard Flowers Sing?

A Re-introduction to Flower Songs

Two weeks ago, I hosted the very first Flower Songs event, and I’m still butterflying in the lightheartedness we created together. With yoga mats circling an open space, we passed around an imaginary talking stick and shared a rhythm that felt both playful and profound. The video you see here expresses the intentionality behind it. Now that there’s a public gathering, a Substack, and a series of artworks, I’d like to re-introduce myself and the offerings I’m calling Flower Songs (also see flowersongs.com).

Caterpillaring into something new, our debut Flower Songs event focused on a theme of “Rebirth,” with awe, wonder, and gratitude for the gifts around us. Equally accessible, the gifts came from within. At one point, we made a fresh beat together, reciting the words, “Unique frequency—let it out!” Ellen originated the idea when she spoke up and expressed through a didgeridoo. Micah reinforced it when we harmonized with his incredible Hip-Hop Folk song. Audrey, Jason, Taylor, Patience, Chad, Avalon, Denise, Vic… everyone discovered miracles.

Through four rounds of sharing (a check-in, artful expression, a gift for humanity, and landing home), we built something truly beautiful: a safe, joyful space to honor our inner child and connect through presence and play. The talking stick became our guide, reminding us how to listen, how to show up fully, and sometimes, how not to be. We made space to prioritize the positives, agreeing that this is a necessary antidote to the overwhelming noise of negativity we find in the mass media.
